Blinds & roller shutters for Tamboerskloof
Below Higgovale and Lion's Head, on streets that mix double-storey Victorian houses with well-built sectional-title apartment blocks — two very different specs, often on the same road.
Victorian houses and sectional-title blocks, side by side
Tamboerskloof's housing stock splits between double-storey Victorian homes and a genuine number of well-built sectional-title apartments — which changes who signs off on exterior work as much as what's fitted. A homeowner decides on an interior blind alone; an apartment usually needs body-corporate sign-off on anything changing the building's exterior, awning cassettes and roller-shutter headboxes included. We ask early, at the free measure, rather than assume either way.
Inside the heritage protection overlay
Tamboerskloof sits inside the City Bowl's formal Heritage Protection Overlay Zone — additional development rules layered over base zoning that apply to renovations, extensions and new exterior work. A conservation panel also acts for this suburb specifically, alongside Higgovale, Oranjezicht and Gardens. None of that stops a blind fitted inside the window reveal, which is a furnishing decision either way; it does mean anything fixed to the outside of a facade is worth checking before it's ordered. Inside the reveal, aluminium and timber venetians are both common here, and which of the two we suggest tends to follow the building — timber where the original sash joinery is still in place, aluminium where it is not.
Below the ridge, still catching the wind
Sitting below Lion's Head and close under the mountain, Tamboerskloof still feels the City Bowl's south-easter funnel, if slightly less than Higgovale's more exposed upper stands. Anything mounted outside — a folding-arm awning, a zip screen, a roller-shutter headbox — still gets a genuine wind rating and, where budget allows, a sensor to retract it automatically.
- Body-corporate sign-off checked before exterior work is quoted on a sectional-title block
- Heritage protection overlay flagged for facade-mounted products
- Aluminium venetians and timber venetians both common, depending on the block
- Wind-rated exterior hardware for the Cape Doctor's funnel below the ridge
